We are a small, Michigan farm practicing regenerative agriculture and offering Tunis sheep for sale for your table & your flock

The key to regenerative agriculture is that it not only “does no harm” to the land but actually improves it, using technologies that regenerate and revitalize the soil and the environment. Regenerative agriculture leads to healthy soil, capable of producing high quality, nutrient dense food while simultaneously improving, rather than degrading land, and ultimately leading to productive farms and healthy communities and economies. It is dynamic and holistic, incorporating permaculture and organic farming practices, including conservation tillage, cover crops, crop rotation, composting, mobile animal shelters and pasture cropping, to increase food production, farmers’ income and especially, topsoil.

Our Special Feed Blend

We have developed a custom non-GMO feed blend for our sheep that we grind and mix in-house and supplement with organic minerals. This feeding method, while more time-consuming, provides worthwhile advantages for the farmer and the consumer.

The primary benefit is that we know what our animals are eating. Not all local meat suppliers can say that.

Some large livestock operations feed their animals leftovers and byproducts from commercial food processing facilities, whatever happens to be available. Premixed bagged feed options are chock full of 30+ ingredients with names that no one can pronounce (even the organic and non-GMO varieties).

Our feed rations vary per breed, but the basics are the same (all non-GMO):

Corn
Oats
Barley
Roasted soybeans
Kelp
Alfalfa meal
Probiotics and prebiotics
Organic minerals

That’s it.

If we know what our animals are eating, then we know what we are eating.

Second, freshly ground feed contains higher nutrient value than processed feed because grain begins to lose nutrients as soon as it is ground (1, 2). So freshly ground feed translates to a more nutrient dense diet than what animals would get from premixed bagged feed or other mass-produced sources. A higher quality feed enhances meat quality, nutritional value, and taste (3).

We have occasionally substituted with bagged feed in the past. The animals will actually smell it and walk away. They eventually come back to it, but when we’ve mixed up more of the fresh recipe, they go after it like they haven’t eaten in days.

Carefully watching the animals is our best gauge of feed performance, and the animals’ choice is clear.

Our sheep for sale are raised small-scale. We started our operation with three lambs and have slowly grown our flock over the years to be able to offer lamb for meat and breeding stock.
